Forming communities – organising ourselves. Innovation needs in adult education
Wars, crises, the ever-widening gap between rich and poor, and polarised debates have consequences for social cohesion and citizens’ socio-political engagement. One of these consequences is a noticeable retreat into private life and the isolation of individuals. At the same time, loneliness, but also certain population groups such as older and younger people with limited financial resources, are often commented on in a negative or disparaging manner.
An artists’ initiative in Marseille, France, and weltgewandt e.V. want to encourage people to come together and actively form their own groups. Through encounters, exchanges, creative approaches to topics brought up by the participants, and other activities, the aim is to promote dialogue between the generations and counteract social inequality. Workshops are being held in Marseille and Berlin for this purpose. The results of the learning process will be presented publicly.
The project activities will be evaluated by external observers and assessed in terms of how adult education and socio-political education can better respond to the needs and ideas of so-called marginalised people and encourage them to make their voices heard in their neighbourhoods, districts, regions and society.
